It's back!
Yep, I've decided to bring back Devious Dragons but it will be a monthly news blog from now on. So here is the first new issue, or #65 for those keeping count.

Welcome to the blog for showcasing older dragon artwork :) There are so many really great pieces of dragon art in the archives, some with very few views and +faves, and I'd like to bring some of these hidden treasures into the light.

Here is this month's selection of dragon art for your enjoyment:

Dragon Legend: Chapter 1
In the beginning, at the dawn of time, there was only the darkness. The sun could not penetrate the dark clouds, could not shine light down upon the people and animals who existed upon the surface, and with no light, they had to rely upon their sense of smell and of hearing; those who were born without smell or hearing were soon picked off or left to fend for themselves. For warmth, they huddled together in numbers. Sometimes the people were joined by the animals who were desperately seeking heat to warm their blood, but most of the time the animals were in their own, separate herds and packs, living on whatever the managed to catch, whatever the herds managed to graze upon.
Finally, one day, the darkness lifted. There was a wind, a breeze, pushing the heavy clouds away. Sunlight burst down, illuminating everything it touched - plants, animals, rocks, humans. The people were so astonished, so amazed. They were blinded and shocked, fearing this sudden change in their life. As they adjus
The Dragon's Jewel
Squish!
A spurt of crimson flew into the air as Adelaina wrenched her broadsword into the dragon's skull. One of the few lady knights in the country, it was a miracle that she had even gone down that path. To keep up the illusion, she even wore masculine armor and kept her mahogany hair short. All missions for her were sent to "Adel," her masculine alias.
The request this time came from a nobleman whose hunting deer had been disappearing mysteriously for the last month or so. He had seen the creature responsible, something that could only be described as a dragon, circling his lands like a hawk. Thousands had attempted to slay the dragon, but none had succeeded.
Yet there its carcass lay, limp before the knightess' blade. It must have been at least 50 feet high, and twice as long from the tip of its crocodilian snout to its sinuous tail. Including its lengthy neck, its whole body was plated with armorlike, rust-red scales, with scutes of a lighter, bluish hue running along its u
Dragon at HeartThere is no place
     that I can go.
There is no road
     for me to travel.
I blaze my path
     from nothingness.
I am a dragon at heart.
My future lies
     ahead of me.
My past, so heavy
     I cannot fly.
The friends I have
     help bear the weight.
I am a dragon at heart.
Fear does not elude me
     whenever trouble strikes.
Despite my desperation,
     I stand brave and proud.
I am a dragon at heart.
The Rider and the DragonThe rider stands upon the hill,
Remembering the light,
Within the dragon's fiery eyes,
The beating of her wings.
He stumbles down to the village,
Ashamed she cannot come,
And tries to give her images,
Of the place he once did dwell.
The snow is deep and cold,
As it seeps into his boots,
Like the memories of his lover,
The woman that he left.
He staggers through the streets,
Searching for her home,
Unaware of the chill,
Or the longing of his soul.
The snow begins to fall again,
And everything is white,
The children quickly disappear,
Leaving him alone.
He finally finds her father's house,
And knocks gently on the door,
She is not home this night,
The young woman has been wed.
The streets are black,
As is his heart,
As he trudges back to the gate,
Ignoring the dragon's comfort.
He is stopped by the uniformed man,
And threatened with a sword,
Before he can do a single thing,
The steel's within his heart.
The rider slumps and dies,
Even with the dragon's love,
And the ranks of his kind die
Dragon in the Sink
Dragon in the Sink
He growls at me from inside the pipe.
If I look down the drain, I can see
tiny iridescent eyes
gold and slitted, like a cat's.
I hesitate to use Drano,
chemical burns seem inhumane.
I tried a stick, it only came back
cracked, tooth-marked, and singed.
I can't recall when he moved house
into my bathroom plumbing.
Perhaps he came with the place,
or is just staying for the winter.
He popped his spiky head up once
to give me a special glare.
I think I woke him from a nap
(he blocked the sink for three days after that).
The plumber found only a stash of scales
each the size of a pin's head
lodged in a gunky, hair-matted blob
stuck inside the U bend.
I sigh and gather toothbrush and Crest.
I guess I'll use the kitchen sink.
Perhaps one day I'll find
a tiny knight to spelunk down that drain
and drive away this wretched
little dragon in my sink.

Submissions Welcomed!
If you would like to suggest a piece of art for the next issue just drop me (Tysharina) a note with the link(s). Mentioning Devious Dragons in the title of your note is much appreciated. All original artwork that has been posted on deviantART is welcome, literature and artisan crafts are more than welcome too. There are a few conditions though:
* The work MUST feature at least one dragon, this blog is not called Devious Dragons for nothing ;)
* The work must be at least 6 months old, I prefer to feature older dragon art in this blog.
* The work cannot have been posted to more than 2 groups, I want to give people art they might not have seen before.

You can suggest work by other deviants, in fact I encourage it. Give a friend that nice surprise :)

Disclaimer
The artwork shown here has been suggested by users of deviantART or found in the deviantART archives.
